JANN 1st General Meeting 2016

February 1, 2016 11:25 pm Published by Leave your thoughts

First and foremost JANN wants to thank everyone who came out. We are quite happy you did and we look forward to more interactions this year. We also want to thank the Animation Specialist from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining for a detailed presentation on Kingstoonfest and what’s in store for animators and artists. Thanks Robert Reid.

We learned that the venue this year for #Kingstoonfest will be the Edna Manley School of the Visual and Performing Arts.  A most fitting location if we do say so. With all the sponsors mentioned we are really excited about the prizes. Participants can look forward to winning Software Licenses, Hardware, Scholarships, Internships and more to further their skills and career. For more information check out the #Kingstoonfest website www.kingstoonfest.com

Kingstoon isn’t the only opportunity to win big or showcase your work. Here is a list of 7 more festivals we strongly recommend you check out.

Lignum Vitae Film Festival (April)

GATFFEST Film Festival (June)

Kingston On the Edge – K.O.T.E. (June)

Carib Tales (Toronto) (September)

Anime Caribe (Trinidad) (October)

Jamaica Film Festival (October)

Alliance Francaise Jamaica French Animation Festival (October)

We strongly suggest what ever you submit to #Kingstoonfest, consider entering it in these festivals as well. While Alliance Francaise and K.O.T.E. are screenings and not competitions, Alliance is observed by ASIFA the largest membership of professional animators in the world. ASIFA arranges animation week annually through the French Embassies all over the world and as such Alliance Francaise’s festival is a part of that effort. K.O.T.E. is a huge art festival that is covered by the media in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the UK, therefore there is a lot of mileage to be gained.  As for Animae Caribe, if you don’t already know, it is the premier animation festival in the Caribbean attended by professionals across the world and last but not least Carib Tales. This festival is a Caribbean specific festival that identifies unique films and prepares filmmakers for the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the most acclaimed festivals in the world, a festival observed by the Oscars. Need I say more?

Soon to come will be an initiative JANN is fostering to collaborate with CPTC and the Book Association to create local content for TV. More information on that will be delivered when things become more concrete.

Until we meet again please check out the the photos and if you want to volunteer at #Kingstoonfest, email us info@animationjamaica.com and we will be sure to pass the word on.
