Animation Goldmine

Sign up for JANN’s launch event – “Animation Goldmine: Own your Art; Own Your Asset” – and get ready to realize your art’s potential!

Learn how to manage your intellectual property and monetize your creativity. Bring along your sketches; drawings; digital assets and get on-the-spot advice on how to best protect them.

The Jamaica Animation Nation Network is bringing together all the pieces necessary to turn intellectual property into a veritable goldmine! Come and take part in a panel discussion that will talk you from what is on the books to what happens in courts and how disputes are settled.

This event is for anyone interested in animation, whether professional or new comer (Animators, Illustrators, Writers, Storyboard Artists, Comic Book Artists, TV/Film Musicians)

The event is set to be highly interactive, and for those of us who prefer to interact and take part digitally, you may do so by EITHER commenting on the live blogging entries that will be available from the homepage OR jumping into the Twitter chat and using #jannlaunch

    Marissa has been with the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office(JIPO) since April 2013. She was called to the Bar as an Attorney-at -Law in December 2012 and practiced with the boutique business firm Cheeks & Co. in commercial, contract, Internet and technology law . She also wrote legal advice articles published in the Jamaica Observer on behalf of the firm. and  worked with the Legal Department of Gleaner Company in various capacities gaining knowledge of defamation, commercial and copyright law with a special focus on online monitoring for defamatory or infringing materials.

    Analisa is an Attorney-at-Law with experience in Intellectual Property (IP) law, civil and commercial law and IP rights clearance and administration. Ms. Chapman has litigated in matters related to copyright and trade mark infringement, as well as negotiated on behalf of owners and users of musical works and other forms of IP. She is the legal consultant for Toucan Jamaica concerning the SERMAF All the Music Foundation project with a focus on advising and educating on matters related to intellectual property rights in the cultural industry. Ms. Chapman’s passion for IP and the creative industries is complemented by her background in theatre, entertainment journalism, talk-radio and short-film production.

    Ronald is in his thirteenth (13th) year of practice as an Attorney-at-Law. He spent four years employed to the law firm of Myers Fletcher & Gordon, where he was elevated to the position of Senior Associate in the Commercial Department, with emphasis on intellectual property, entertainment law, telecommunications law and commercial contracts. In 2005 Ron was employed to Lime (Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited) as Legal Advisor (Head of Department) in the Legal, Regulatory and Public Policy Division advising on all aspects of intellectual property, entertainment law, commercial and telecommunications law.
    He has been involved in artiste development, event management and promotion and worked with a large number of known personalities and entities in entertainment. Ronald has served Bar Associations Intellectual Property Law Committee, and
    the Jamaica Anti-Piracy Alliance (JAPA).

    Mr. Samuda is the Managing Partner of the law firm and heads the firmís Commercial, International Trade & Finance Department. His practice includes Tourism, Corporate and Hotel Financing; Trade and Transportation; Mining and Energy and Maritime Law. He is one of the few attorneys in Jamaica with a practice in Mining and Energy and his practice also includes entertainment and sport. He has represented recording and publishing companies, artistes and songwriters, producers and actors, sports agents and sports organizations. In his entertainment practice, Mr. Samuda is a member of the Competent Authority in respect of the Co-Production Film Treaty between the United Kingdom and Jamaica. He is also a Member of the Advisory Board of the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office.

    Kerry-Ann joined the Commercial Department at Myers, Fletcher & Gordon in August 2010, specializing in Pensions, Intellectual Property law and Corporate Compliance. In the area of Intellectual Property, her responsibilities at the firm include the management of local and international trademark portfolios for major corporate clients; she is involved in all aspects of trade mark, design and patent law, including registration, licensing and infringement matters. Kerry-Ann has served as Secretary for the Management Advisory Board of the Companies Office of Jamaica and is currently a Director on the Entertainment Advisory Board for the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment. She also sits on the Commercial Law Committee of the Jamaica Bar Association and the Intellectual Property Committee of the Jamaica Bar Association.
